Vresthena are located on the western slopes of
Mount Parnon, in the Peloponnese, at a distnace of 26 kilometres from
Sparta. The village belogns to the Municipality of Oenous, of the Eparchy
of Lacedaemon of the Prefecture of Laconia. Vresthena lie about 13
kilometres off the main Tripolis-Sparta road -connected to this by a road
constructed at the beginning of the 20th century on the expenses of the
Vrestheniots.
Vresthena cover an area of 14,177 acres, within the Municipality of
Oenous, which was introduced through the "Kapodistrias" programme for the
re-structuring of all the municipalities of Greece. The Municipality of
Oenous incorporated the villages of Vamvakou, Varvitsa, Vassaras,
Voutianoi, Vresthena, Theologos, Koniditsa and Sellassia. The total area
of Oenous is 74,579 acres.
The European Rambler Trail E4, which begins in the Pyrenees, enters Greece
(through Yugoslavia) near Florina and winds up at Gytheion, passes through
the village of Vresthena. Many hikers follow this trail every year.
Vresthena is located in the section of the Trail between Aghios Petros in
Kynouria and Sparta. |
